Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was started by The Broke and the Bookish, and has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Every Tuesday there’s a different topic. This week is Top Ten books I’ve read so far in 2018. I always love this topic because it’s interesting to see how many books from the second half of the year manage to make it on to final list.

10. Dear Evan Hansen Dear Evan Hansen – Val Emmich. Love the musical and loved the book.

9. Puddin Puddin’ – Julie Murphy. Go Willowdean! Such a girl power novel.

8. More than we can tell More Than We Can Tell – Brigid Kemmerer. My favourite character from Letters To The Lost got his own book!

7. These Rebel Waves These Rebel Waves – Sara Raasch. Slow plot but Sara Raasch’s books are always worth it.

6. Sadie Sadie – Courtney Summers. Gritty and brutal.

5. Nyxia Unleashed Nyxia Unleashed – Scott Reintgen. Even better than the first book.

4. All of this is True All of This is True – Lygia Day Penaflor. Very unique storytelling.

3. Aru Shah Aru Shah and the End of Time – Roshani Chokshi. So funny but action-packed as well.

2. COB&B_JKT_100517.indd Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi. This almost beat out the first spot. It was so good.

1. 38741488 The Last: Endling – Katherine Applegate. This book was just perfection.

Series Spotlight: The Balance Keepers by Lindsay Cummings

Thursday I’m going to be putting the spotlight on a book series and talking about it. It might be one I’ve read, one I’m reading, or one I haven’t gotten to yet, depending on what I feel like talking about that week. This week’s series has me going middle grade all the way.

firespillars of ponderaytraitor-of-belltroll

The Balance Keepers series by Lindsay Cummings

Review status: 3/3. The Fires of Calderon, The Pillars of Ponderay, The Traitor of Belltroll

All books are released, own in hardcover.

I wasn’t too sure how I would enjoy this series but I had an ARC of the first book so I gave it a try. And I absolutely fell in love with the friendship of the main three characters. It gave me Harry Potter vibes of the Golden trio. It had a lot of action and if there was an amusement park of this series, I would definitely want to go.

Favourite character: Leroy. I always have a thing for the nerdy underdog. And he grew so much through the three books.

Favourite book: The Fires of Calderon. It introduced the Core, gave us the growing friendship between Albert, Leroy, and Birdy, and showed us just how high the stakes were if they were to fail to maintain the balance of the world.

Status: Finished.

Author status: Semi-auto-buy. I do own all this author’s books and have enjoyed them but they haven’t been a need on release day, line up before the doors open kind of feeling.

Next up from Lindsay Cummings: Blood, Metal, Bone coming out in 2019, and the so far untitled sequel to Zenith, also coming in 2019.

March Wrap-Up/April TBR

And we’re three months into 2018. There’s been some great books that have come out already and there’s so much more to come! April and May are going to be busy months.

March Wrap-Up:

Identical Identical – Ellen Hopkins. 3/5 stars. I find most of her books pretty easy to predict but they’re fast reads.

Where I Live (Final Cover) Where I Live – Brenda Rufener. 4/5 stars. Review. I loved the friendships in this book.

image The Sword of Summer – Rick Riordan. 4/5 stars. I’m not sure why it took me so long to pick this up because I love Rick Riordan.

13065327 Wild Cards/Better Than Perfect – Simone Elkeles. 3/5 stars. The paperback had a name change so I thought I’d already read this.

Save the Date Save the Date – Morgan Matson. 4/5 stars. Review. Great family dynamics, so sweet and funny at the same time.

Aru Shah Aru Shah and the End of Time – Roshani Chokshi. 4/5 stars. I can definitely see why this was chosen for Rick Riordan’s new imprint. It had the feel of the Percy Jackson while still being amazing on its own.

Miles Away From You Miles Away from You – AB Rutledge. 2.5/5 stars. I had a hard time connecting to this character.

Spindle Fire Spindle Fire – Lexa Hillyer. 3/5 stars. A little predictable but definitely picking up the next one.

Chaotic Good Comps14.indd Chaotic Good – Whitney Gardner. 3.5/5 stars. Review. This was cute and I enjoyed the comics included.

Ash Princess Ash Princess – Laura Sebastian. 3.5/5 stars. Very solid fantasy. I didn’t feel like it stood out from all the other fantasy books but it was still good.

34726469 Sky in the Deep – Adrienne Young . 4.5/5 stars. If I hadn’t had to wake up early the next morning, I would have finished this in a night.

38741488 The Last – Katherine Applegate. 5/5 stars! I fell in love with this world and cannot wait for the next one!

Royals Royals – Rachel Hawkins. 4/5 stars. This was really cute and I liked the characters.

32928935 The Window – Amelia Brunskill. 4/5 stars. Mind officially twisted. Great thriller.

35068585 Ice Wolves – Amie Kaufman. 4/5 stars. Another Middle Grade read this month that was  great. The mythology was so interesting.

brave-new-girl Brave New Girl – Rachel Vincent. 3/5 stars. Solid start. Will definitely buy the next one.

Time Bomb Time Bomb – Joelle Charbonneau. 4/5 stars. I did figure out some major key details in this one but it was still very intriguing. And very relevant to today.

Wicked Deep The Wicked Deep – Shea Ernshaw. 4/5 stars. I’m not sure I would have picked this up without the Netflix announcement but I am so glad I did. It was dark and interesting and I finished it in a night.
