Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was started by The Broke and the Bookish, and has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Every Tuesday there’s a different topic. This week is Top Ten cover redesigns I either love/hate but I chose to do Top Ten favourite tropes.

10. Enemies to lovers. I absolutely love when two people who hate each other end up being paired up together and, after discovering they have a lot in common once they actually get to know each other, falling in love.

9. Misfit families. I am a huge sucker for those groups of friends who have become family, who will protect each other, fight for each other.

8. Space Opera. Really, anything set in space but books deems a space opera really get me. Insta-buy.

7. Unconventional Couples. Those couples who should never work but somehow do. Yes please.

6. Metamorphosis. Watching a character transform through the pages. So cool.

5. Fake dating. All of the fake dating tropes please.

4. Competitors falling in love. Different than enemies in love, mostly because they don’t necessarily hate each other and the competitive nature fuels them.

3. The villain is actually the hero. Spending the whole book thinking you have this evil character pegged only to find out they’ve been working behind the scenes to undo all the work of the true villain.

2. Best friends taking on the world. In any setting, the us against the world mentality.

  1. Magical competitions. Always so much fun to read.

Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was started by The Broke and the Bookish, and has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Every Tuesday there’s a different topic. This week is Top Ten settings I’d like to see more of in books.

10. School dances. If they appear in the book, it’s usually just for a chapter. Give me a whole book about planning the dance, getting ready, the actual dance, and the fall out.

9. First jobs. Don’t make it a throwaway, give me a book mostly set at their job with their co-workers and maybe a romance.

8. Road trips. They used to be very popular but they’re become harder to find.

7. Our world/Fantasy world. I love when characters can jump back and forth between worlds.

6. Snowy places. I love my beach-set reads but I also love cozy cabins and ski trails.

5. Unconventional vacations. Give me a family going somewhere other than a beach cottage, camping, or to a relative’s home.

4. Conventions that aren’t Comic Con.

3. Libraries.

2. Sporting events.

  1. Coffee shops.

Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was started by The Broke and the Bookish, and has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Every Tuesday there’s a different topic. This week is Top Ten character freebie so I did Top Ten Characters who meant a lot to me.

10. Anne Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables – LM Montgomery. I’m from PEI so it was cool to see a character growing up here.

9. lion Lucy from The Chronicles of Narnia – CS Lewis. It felt like we got to grow up with her through the books.

8. girl against the universe Maguire from Girl Against the Universe – Paula Stokes. Her journey of healing was so well done.

7. fangirl big Cath from Fangirl – Rainbow Rowell. I was young when I started University so I connected hard with Cath’s fears.

6. goodbye Lex from The Last Time We Say Goodbye – Cynthia Hand. This book hit me hard and Lex’s guilt was so easy to relate to and so memorable as an older sibling.

5. Eliza and her monsters Eliza from Eliza and Her Monsters – Francesca Zappia. For all the times I felt like my parents would never understand me.

4. bittersweet big Hudson from Bittersweet – Sarah Ockler. Would rather bake than face life? Sign me up for help.

3. Sadie Sadie from Sadie – Courtney Summers. A very recent book but a character I know will stay with me.

2. dumplin Willowdean from Dumplin’ – Julie Murphy. For all the big girls who deserve love to! Gotta love Willowdean!

  1. harry potter Harry/Ron/Hermione from Harry Potter – JK Rowling. Another trio of characters I feel like I grew up with even though I was much older than them when I started reading this series.

Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was started by The Broke and the Bookish, and has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Every Tuesday there’s a different topic. This week is Top Ten unpopular bookish opinions. I don’t think I have a lot of controversial opinions so these are more opinions that I’ve had to defend.

10. Read whatever you want. I can’t stand when people book-shame. If the book sounds good to you, read it.

9. You can learn life lessons from YA books, even as an adult.

8. Not every book needs a romance.

7. Reading isn’t a competition. It’s not about how many books you read or how many ARCs you get. You could read 10 books a year but still get more out of those 10 books than someone who read 100 books.

6. Problematic books should be talked about without the fear that someone will harass you for doing so. Nothing will change unless we talk about it.

5. There’s not enough love for YA Sci-Fi. There’s been some amazing books released in the last few years that seem like they’ve been swallowed up by the fantasy and contemporary trend.

4. Hardcovers over paperbacks!

3. YA is for everyone. Stop judging!

2. It’s okay to hate a book. It’s also okay to stop reading a book you’re not enjoying.

  1. Listening to an audiobook counts as reading it.
