November Wrap-Up/December TBR

November Wrap-Up:

Everless Everless – Sara Holland. 4/5 stars. Review. I really enjoyed the concept of this book and I would love to see a prequel based on the mythology.

Cruel Prince The Cruel Prince – Holly Black. 3.5/5 stars. Review. There were interesting parts but I did find the twists predictable.

Artemis Artemis – Andy Weir. 3.5/5 stars. This was a lot of fun to read. It did get very technical at some points but it was still good.

The Taking big The Taking – Kimberly Derting. 3/5 stars. This one was predictable but I think I was definitely in the mood for some aliens because it was enjoyable.

Runebinder Runebinder – Alex R Kahler. 3/5 stars. This was another one where I really liked the concept, the action was good, but there wasn’t a whole lot of development.

Siege of Shadows Siege of Shadows – Sarah Raughley. 3.5/5 stars. Review. I thought this one was even better than the first. More action, more world-building, and I’m definitely excited for the next one.

Zenith Zenith – Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings. 3.5/5 stars. Review. There were some tropes but it was still a solid first book in what could be a great series.

The Replaced The Replaced – Kimberly Derting. 3/5 stars. See The Taking.

Together at Midnight Together at Midnight – Jennifer Castle. 4/5 stars. I loved the dynamic between Max and Kendall and the concept was so good.

Love, Hate, and Other Filters Love, Hate, and Other Filters – Samira Ahmed. 4/5 stars. Review. Definitely a read that makes an impact.

Dangerous Art of Blending in The Dangerous Art of Blending In – Angelo Surmelis. 4/5 stars. Review. This book was so good. Like the one above, it leaves an impact.

countdown The Countdown – Kimberly Derting. 3/5 stars. See The Taking.

Tempests and Slaughter Tempests and Slaughter – Tamora Pierce. 4.5/5 stars. Such a throwback. I loved the Tortall series when it first came out and I loved seeing the childhood of one of my favourite characters.

Nightwalker Batman: Nightwalker – Marie Lu. 4/5 stars. I’m not the biggest Batman fan so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. Bruce made some stupid decisions but I enjoyed his friendship with Harvey and Dianne.

Hazel Wood The Hazel Wood – Melissa Albert. 3.5/5 stars. This one was pretty slow to get into but once I did, it was very good. Creepy and perfect for curling up with.

Sylo big Sylo – DJ MacHale. 3/5 stars. This was a little slow, predictable, but this seems like a series I could really get into.

Heart of Iron Heart of Iron – Ashley Poston. 4.5/5 stars. I absolutely loved this. The characters were great, the plot was great, and this author is definitely making her way up my auto-buy list.

October Wrap-Up/November TBR

October Wrap-Up:

That Inevitable Victorian Thing That Inevitable Victorian Thing – EK Johnston. 3/5 stars. I really liked the concept of this but the world-building didn’t draw me in.

Burn Burn – Elissa Sussman. 3/5 stars. A companion to Stray, it didn’t seem like much happened until the end.

The Nowhere Girls The Nowhere Girls – Amy Reed. 4/5 stars. Review. I loved the friendship and the conversations between these girls.

Rules of Rain Rules of Rain – Leah Scheier. 3.5/5 stars. Review. Very interesting sibling dynamics.

Love, Life, and the List Love, Life, and the List – Kasie West. 4/5 stars. Very cute and perfectly Kasie West.

Trust Me I'm Lying Trust Me, I’m Lying – Mary Elizabeth Summer. 3/5 stars. This one didn’t really grab me but it did make me want to read the sequel.

Trust me I'm Trouble Trust Me, I’m Trouble – Mary Elizabeth Summer. 3/5 stars. I thought the sequel was a little better than the first.

Kiss me in new york Kiss Me in New York – Catherine Rider. 3.5/5 stars. Review. Cute, quick read.

Lives of Desperate Girls The Lives of Desperate Girls – MacKenzie Common. 3/5 stars. Another one where I liked the concept but the main character could get a bit annoying.

Renegades Renegades – Marissa Meyer. 4.5/5 stars. Review. So good. Loved the superheroes vs villains with a spy twist.

a thousand nights A Thousand Lives – EK Johnston. 3/5 stars. A little slow and predictable but enjoyable.

Spindle Spindle – EK Johnston. 3/5 stars. Same as above.

Into the Bright Unknown Into the Bright Unknown – Rae Carson. 4.5/5 stars. Review. So sad to this this series had ended up it was great through the whole three books.

image Mortal Danger – Ann Aguirre. 3/5 stars. I enjoyed going back into paranormal plots.

Here We Are Now Here We Are Now – Jasmine Warga. 4/5 stars. I really liked the dynamics between the characters.

Gunslinger Girl Gunslinger Girl – Lyndsay Ely. 4/5 stars. Review coming. I love westerns and this futuristic old west setting was so intriguing. And the main character was very badass.

27 Hours 27 Hours – Tristina Wright. 3.5/5 stars. Review coming. I appreciated how diverse the cast of characters were in this book. So positive.

idols Idols – Margaret Stohl. 3/5 stars. A solid follow up to Icons. It’s been so long since I read the first though that I had forgotten quite a bit.

Series Spotlight: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

This week’s spotlight is a huge favourite of mine.

darkest mindsnever fadeafterlightthrough the dark

The Darkest Minds trilogy by Alexandra Bracken

Review status: 0.

All books released, covers match. New covers also being released soon.

I love this series. It has great characters, an intriguing plot line and each book just got better. Waiting for the next book to be released was so hard and the conclusion delivered in all the right ways.

Favourite character: Chubs. There was just something about him. He wasn’t one of the main two leads but he was always there. He didn’t let many people in but those he did, they were his.

Favourite book: The Darkest Minds. The first one. Both sequels were great but there was something very special about the first book, getting introduced the all the characters and watching the bonds form between them.

Reading status: Finished. Shelved on my favourites bookcase.

Author status: Auto-buy.

Next up for Alexandra Bracken: An e-book titled Beyond the Night, coming out December 18th 2017 and the movie adaptation of The Darkest Minds, coming out September 14 2018(as of now)
